I often come across these kids who’d surprise you with lots of soap on your windshield or your window. Even if you tell them to stop, they won’t stop. I’ve tried honking, moving my car forward (which, I know, is quite dangerous), turning on the wipers, and opening my window to ask them to stop. Still, to no avail.
Everytime this happens to me, I never shell out a single cent. I may be tough on them, but “no” means “NO”. Besides, children should not be tolerated to beg nor do such “jobs” which are unsafe because they’re in the middle of the streets.
My friend, Dona who was a victim of these window washers got a scratch on her windshield. Some do put dirt, worse, broken glass on their soap mixture. Bad, bad, bad!
Oh, before I forget, these window washers don’t show up in the heat of the summer. When it’s rainy, they reveal themselves, just when you never NEED to wash your windows.
I’ve read, this doesn’t happen only in Manila or the Philippines. It’s rampant in Italy and they’re threatening to jail those unwanted window washers. How I wish a law close to that will apply here… send those kids to the social welfare bureau.
